Purification & Fasting Retreat
Fri 10th - Sun 12th April | unguided

This two day retreat, which is done in conjunction with Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara practice, is very powerful for purifying negative karma of body, speech, and mind, pacifying strong delusions and increasing our compassion.
This practice involves taking the Mahayana precepts (a promise to avoid all non virtue for 24 hours), conjoined with the practice of prostrations. Through this we improve our practice of discipline and our mind of compassion. In order to participate in this retreat, you must take precepts each morning you participate.
You may engage in one or two days of the retreat but please note it is not possible to drop in to individual sessions. Retreat details This practice is done over two days, with the eight Mahayana precepts being taken at the beginning of each day.
On the first day it is customary to abstain from all meals apart from lunch. On the second day we engage in a complete fast, abstaining from all food and drink for 24 hours. On both days, we do three sessions of meditation, combining prostrations with chanted meditation.
Those who are unable to engage in a complete fast can participate in the sessions on the second day, provided they take the Mahayana precepts on that day.
Gen Kelsang Lamchen, the Resident Teacher of KMC Bristol, will give an introduction to the Retreat on Friday evening from 7.30 – 8.30pm. For those who are new to this retreat and wish to participate in the retreat you must attend this introductory talk. The sessions in this retreat do not contain teachings, but guidance will be given to you on how to engage in the retreat

Beyond Self - The Power of Altruism
Saturday 25th April
with Gen Kelsang Lamchen

Developing an altruistic attitude of mind strengthens and broadens our love, compassion and wisdom. When integrated with our daily life altruism counters feelings of loneliness, isolation and disconnection and adds value, meaning and purpose.
Moving beyond the self challenges our own position and enables us to gain perspective. Altruism helps us to accept our differences whilst moving towards finding workable solutions within our relationships.
More widely, the beautiful, powerful mindset of altruism builds a brave, wise path of kindness through difficult times. By developing altruism we remove negativity from the world and give back love and kindness.
