The path to enlightenment

April 22 No Class

April 29 Actions and their Effects
If a gardener sows a seed for a medicinal plant a poisonous plant will not grow from it. Similarly, if we perform virtuous actions and abandon harmful actions we can create the causes for future happiness and freedom from suffering.

May 6 Developing Renunciation for Samsara
Most of the problems we experience come from our seeking satisfaction in the pleasures of samsara when no real satisfaction can be derived from them. For instance, if we seek satisfaction from drinking alcohol we shall keep drinking and drinking without ever finding what we seek.
In this class we will be looking at finding inner peace and developing within ourselves a contented mind that doesn't depend on external conditions.
Always be content. If you practice contentment even though you have no wealth you are rich.

May 13 Developing equanimity
The purpose of this meditation is to free our mind from unbalanced attitudes. Our feelings towards others are often unbalanced. When we see a friend or someone we find particularly attractive we feel pleased. When we see an enemy or an unattractive person we feel dislike.
In this class we will look at how to see everyone in a warm and friendly way.
